Reading Royals new affiliate of Washington Capitals

Should be a bit easier to keep tabs on players in the Washington Capitals' organization with Monday's announcement of the agreement between the Caps and the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League, Lancaster Online is reporting.

The Capitals, whose American Hockey League affiliate is the Hershey Bears, will utilize the Royals to develop players who hope to reach the National Hockey League.

In previous years, players who did not make the Bears' roster were sent to the ECHL South Carolina Sting Rays. Monday's move makes logitical sense.

"We feel the proximity to both Washington and our AHL affiliate in Hershey will be beneficial to all three clubs," said Capitals general manager George McPhee, via a press release.
